A summer reading book I chose and read was A Walk In the woods Where Bill Bryson speaks about the adventures he encounters as he walks through the Appalachian trail with a friend by the name Stephen Katz. I was quite interested by this novel knowing that there was more and more things as they hiked the trail with lots of frustration and confusion. The only thing was that at certain sections in the novel was not adventure filled and very boring because Bill just explained the setting(which was mostly woods) and having boring conversations with his buddy Stephen.
Summary and Review:
Bill Bryson, an American who lived in England for twenty years decided to come back and reconnect with his country's landscape. He walks with his old friend Stephen Katz, an overweight and recovering alcoholic. They hike almost the whole trail, but did not make it fully due to the fact its the world's longest hiking trail. Throughout the entire hike, Katz is not nearly as enthusiastic as Bill is, but hikes anyway. Also, they stopped at different hotels/motels or just camped overnight. After a couple weeks of hiking, Bryson realizes he only hiked a very small part of the trail. At one point, Katz has to return home to work for a bit. Bill Bryson walks on his own for a bit until he understands how its not really fun hiking all alone. Katz returns but is back on the alcohol angering Bill. They make up when they return on the Appalachian trail ready to hike "The Hundred Mile Wilderness". Stephen gets lost and when gets found again realizes he almost died and the two men leave the trail happy that they at least tried. I somewhat enjoyed this read although it was not interesting at some points of the novel.
